Optica Incubator on wearable light loggers

From 5 to 7 February 2024, we co-hosted and participated in the Optica Incubator on Wearable Dosimeters and Light Loggers: Performance, Miniaturization and Health Metrics. It showcased the latest developments in wearable dosimeters and light loggers for research, marking a significant leap forward in collaboration around key issues in the field. Experts from around the globe gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities in miniaturizing devices, enhancing user experience, and standardizing data collection and analysis methods.

Key highlights included discussions on the need for devices that blend seamlessly into daily life without compromising on accuracy or functionality. Innovations in sensor technology promise more compact, efficient, and powerful wearable devices, capable of providing invaluable insights into the health impacts of light exposure.

The event also emphasized the importance of community collaboration in driving forward the field of wearable light monitoring. As technology continues to evolve, these advancements are expected to open new avenues when connecting light exposure to health outcomes for circadian, myopia, and other lines of research, such as photophobia.

The group is thrilled to have been part of the incubator, and having co-hosted with Rigmor Baraas (University of South-Eastern Norway) and Francisco Imai (Apple Inc.).
